Saverio F. "Sam" Sauro, 76, of Vandergrift, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born April 30, 1941, in Vandergrift, to Michele "Mike" and Annie (Sciullo) Sauro. Sam was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Vandergrift and a 1960 graduate of Vandergrift High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served until 1964. He retired from Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge plant. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and John; and nephew, Michael G. Sauro. He is survived by a brother, Michael E. (Christine) Sauro, of McAlester, Okla.; nephew, Benjamin L. (Sarah) Sauro, of Columbia, Mo.; nieces, Catherine (Gordon) Slowikowski, of Willow Springs, N.C.; Christine (A.J.) Sauro, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Brienne (Lance) Matthews, of McAlester, Okla. He was a member of American Legion Post 114 of Vandergrift, and the Vandergrift Sportsmen's Association. Sam was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan. Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon Friday, with Father James Loew, OSB, as celebrant, in the DUNMIRE-KERR AND ROWE FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift.
