Louis E CaravaggioDecember 14, 1926 ~ January 8, 2018 (age 91)
Louis E. Caravaggio, 91, of Vandergrift, died peacefully and unexpectedly at home Monday, Jan. 8, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Rose DeMichele Caravaggio; his brother, Donato A. Caravaggio; and sister, Mary Caravaggio Cice. He is survived by his niece, Linda R. (Charles) Bell; niece, Terry (Raymond) Cice Comperatore; nephew, Michael Cice (Marita O'Neill); grand-nieces; grand-nephews; great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews; and many cousins. "Uncle Louie," as he was known to everyone, was kind and generous to a fault, helping many in need without being asked and always providing a kind word, joke or story from his amazing life. Uncle Louie served in the Army from 1946-1947 and was stationed in the payroll department of Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., for most of his tour of duty. He worked for United States Steel in their Vandergrift laboratory until his retirement. Uncle Louie could be found most days meeting with his friends at Giant Eagle or making his various stops around town, including visiting Sweetlane Chocolate Shop to spend time with the owners, Pete and Nicole Basile, and chat with customers. He loved his family, making wine, cooking and planting and tending to his yearly garden. He looked forward to his yearly trips to Cancun, first with his dear friend, Ann Pocetti, who predeceased him, and then alone, including last year, to meet with the many friends he had made there. Uncle Louie will be sorely missed by those who knew him.
Pursuant to his wishes, there will be no viewing. The family will receive friends from 9 until 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, in St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Vandergrift, where a funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to the DUNMIRE-KERR AND ROWE FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift.
