John L. "Yash" Stefanik, 84, of Upper West Vandergrift, died peacefully at home, Friday, Feb. 23, 2018. He was born Sept. 22, 1933, in East Vandergrift. He was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, Vandergrift, a VA volunteer and member of the Vandergrift Honor Guard. He served in the Army from 1953 to1955 during the Korean War with the 121st EVAC hospital. He enjoyed fishing, bowling for the Slovak Club in East Vandergrift and volunteering for various organizations. John was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Ann Stefanik; and sister, Dolores Caugherty. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia L. (Tomayko) Stefanik; daughter, Kimberly A. Stefanik, of Upper West Vandergrift; son, John M. and Kimberly A. (Rowland) Stefanik, of Brackenridge; son, Richard J. and Michele L. (Rodriguez) Stefanik, of Upper West Vandergrift; sister, Patricia and Mauro Florio, of Cherry Tree, Pa.; brother, Robert and Donna Stefanik, of Ravenna, Ohio; brother, Thomas M. and Helena, of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Anne Marie and Albert Trombi, of Vandergrift, Pa.; three grandchildren, John A., Nash M. and Shane M. Stefanik; one great-grandchild, Noah Stefanik; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the DUNMIRE-KERR AND ROWE FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, with Father James Loew OSB as celebrant. Interment will be private.
