Edward Dutton Lynch Sr.

February 16, 1935 ~ December 11, 2018 (age 83)

Edward Dutton Lynch, Sr. 83, of Washington Township, Apollo, PA died unexpectedly December 11, 2018in UPMC East Monroeville. Born February 16, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA. He is the son of the late Richard Howard and Mary Kathryn Jennings Lynch of Washington Township. Ed had been employed by DickCorporation of Large Pa for 45 years, where he had been a General Superintendent prior to retiring in 2000and also had been a carpenter belonging to Local 333/432. During his career he worked on various large construction projects from Nuclear, Cogeneration and Coal Power Plants, Steel Mills, Oil Refineries, and the Pennsylvania State Capital Complex. Ed was also an accomplished race car driver, also known as the original "Apollo Rocket" behind the wheel of Dirt Modifieds, Sprint Cars, USAC Champ Cars, and NY D.I.R.T. Modifieds. Ed had been a track record holderfor most wins accumulating a record 44 wins in a year tying a Nascar driver, held track championships at various local area dirt tracks and belongs to various racing hall of fames. He raced in over 8 states for almost 30 years. A member of the VandergriftPresbyterian Church he enjoyed watching various sports his grandsons participated in, family vacations to Jupiter Beach, Florida and chauffeuring his grand-dogs Thor and Loki.  Survivors include his wife of 64 years Jean Stoops Lynch of Apollo. His son Edward Dutton (Denise) Lynch Jr. of Apollo. His daughter Jill Lynch Reed of Apollo along with four grandchildren Edward Dutton Lynch III, A.J. Reed., Bobby Reed, Sye Lynch and step-grandchildren Noah and Luke. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Howard Earl Lynch and three sisters Jane Alcorn., Marcella Lynch and his twin, Emily McDole. Family and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Dunmire-Kerr & Rowe Funeral Home, Inc. 244 Franklin Avenue Vandergrift. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11AM in the  Vandergrfit Presbyterian Church with Pastor Neal Galley officiating. Interment will be in the Vandergrift Cemetery.
