The Dunmire-Kerr Funeral Home, Inc. was established in 1968 when James. B. Kerr approached R.W. Dunmire to form a partnership that lasted until Mr. Dunmire's death in 1985.
Mr. Dunmire had worked for Robert Armstrong, a funeral director since 1905, and a furniture store owner. Mr Dunmire assumed the furniture store and funeral business from Mr. Armstrong. Mr. Dunmire was well known in the community as a leader, having served for many years on the local school board, as well as a number of other civic organizations. His funeral directors license was issued in 1925 and he served the community for 60 years with care and compassion.
Mr. Kerr acquired the funeral home in 1968 and expanded the facility in 1970, doubling its size. He had been the sole owner since Mr. Dunmire's death in 1985. In 1990 he was joined by Shawn Rowe who became a Licensed Funeral Director in 1998, who then became a partner in the business in 2012.
